Sharing important findings about weight and wellness is a big part of what we do. Here are some of the workshops, classes and talks that we gave in 2012:
Dr. Robyn Osborn
- New workshops on Body Image, Sleep Management, and Navigating the Holidays
- Workshop and scientific abstract at the International Conference on Eating Disorders annual conference
Dr. Bill Picon
- Spearheaded a new core offering at NCWW, “Fundamentals of Weight and Wellness”
- New workshops on Managing Motivation and Emotional Eating
Dr. Maria Thestrup
- Created a new group on mindfulness and resiliency for 2013
- Taught several workshops on meditation and stress management
- Led several professional development groups focused on training in mind-body interventions for therapists-in-training
Dr. Renu Mansukhani
- Created seminars on the biology of eating behaviors
- Lectured and led a panel discussion on obesity, nutrition, and behavior change for medical students at Johns Hopkins University
- Spoke to elementary school students on life balance and nutrition
- Gave educational lectures to physicians on endocrinology and the use of obesity medications
- Spoke on obesity to Brown University School of Medicine alumni
Nicole Brown
- Developed new nutrition classes, including Fabulous Fiber, Powerful Protein, and Moving More
- Taught a course on Sports Nutrition to dietetic interns
- Lectured on weight management at James Madison University
Dr. Scott Kahan
- Delivered Congressional Briefings on Capitol Hill on the childhood obesity epidemic, heart disease in women, and evidence-based treatments for obesity
- Taught continuing medical education (CME) courses for physicians and health professionals, including to the State of Maryland Department of Health, Mercy Hospital in Baltimore, St. Francis Hospital in Georgia, and others
- Presented a lecture and participated in a panel discussion at the annual meeting of The Obesity Society
- Presented at the American College of Preventive Medicine annual conference
- Moderated a panel for the Center for Science in the Public Interest
- Kicked off the Go the Extra Mile initiative for the National Indian Health Board
- Taught courses on medicine, nutrition, obesity, and public health at Johns Hopkins University and George Washington University
Rebecca Mohning
- Developed and presented a nutrition seminar on behalf of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield
- Presented on sports nutrition at the Multisport World Expo
Tricia Psota
- Served on a panel of experts at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Community College Day
- Presented a seminar on the profession of clinical nutrition research at the Annual NIH Nutrition Research Day Symposium
