Drop-in Treatment and Support Groups:

(Psychological treatment and support sessions where patients engage in discussions and insight-oriented activities to build skills for long-term behavior change and weight management)

LONG-TERM WEIGHT MANAGEMENT SUPPORT GROUP

This group explores the spectrum of personal changes that are often a part of building positive weight management. The emphasis of this group is on sharing specific experiences and supporting each other through the ups and downs of weight management, behavioral change and life.

MOTIVATION WORKSHOP

Motivation is the psychological factor by which we determine (consciously or unconsciously) how to dedicate and distribute our energy and focus, including how we decide what goals and criteria should govern our decision making.Learning about motivation can be valuable across all walks of life, but it is especially important regarding weight management and behavioral change, as there are many fluctuations in motivation and the ongoing risk of life events distracting our attention toward self-care and sustaining weight management behaviors.

This 90-minute, every-other-week, drop-in workshop focuses on both the theory and practice of managing motivation.The didactics will help you learn about motivation theory and structures for motivation management. The workshop component will focus on guiding participants to build and refine their motivation management platforms. Most participants will attend regularly, but ongoing attendance is not required.

EMOTIONAL EATING

Emotional eating is part of life. For many it becomes a particular concern when it impacts our ability to manage weight and health. This group will explore emotional eating and related behavioral challenges, such as binge eating and compulsive overeating, both conceptually and with focus on tangible strategies to manage these as part of long-term weight management.

LIFESTYLE APPROACHES TO WEIGHT MANAGEMENT AND WELLNESS

This interactive class discussion will be focused on lifestyle approaches to weight management and wellness. Topics will cover a variety of healthy lifestyle habits focused on physical activity, rest and relaxation, sleep and more.

MENS GROUP 

This drop-in discussion group focuses on the interests, concerns, and challenges relevant to men.

SEMINARS IN THE PSYCHOLOGY OF WEIGHT AND WELLNESS 

This 90-min drop-in seminar focuses on the many aspects of psychology involved in weight management, behavioral change, and optimizing our wellness. These sessions will include in-depth seminars and discussions on a wide range of relevant topics, including: strategies for health behavioral change, self-care and “self-parenting,” managing our motivations, understanding emotional eating, the intersection of our thoughts and feelings with our tangible behaviors, perfectionism and health behaviors, self-awareness and body image, and many others.

CORE TOPICS ON WEIGHT AND WELLNESS 

This discussion group focuses on a wide range of topics relevant to each of us who are working on managing weight, building health, preventing disease, and feeling good. Led by Dr. Scott Kahan, sessions will vary from didactic presentations to group discussions to participatory work groups.

PSYCHOLOGICAL COMPLEXITIES IN WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

Building a sustainable platform for health behavior change and weight management often involves attention to psychology. Topics of discussion include understanding and managing our motivations, exploring emotional eating, appreciating how thoughts and feelings impact our choices and behaviors, self-awareness, positive body image, and many others. The class includes short presentations, readings, and thoughtful discussions to explore these and other key topics.

* MAINTENANCE

A reserved group for those who are actively working at maintaining positive behavioral changes and lost weight.

*TREATMENT OF EMOTIONAL EATING 

Emotional eating is something all of us learned from the very first moments of birth – when our caregivers merged the sustenance of eating with the warmth of being comforted. Emotional eating is perfectly normal yet also a challenge for long-term weight management. This group helps you to build a systematic approach for managing emotional eating.

NAVIGATING NUTRITION

This interactive nutrition class will allow patients the opportunity to learn skills to navigate their food environment. In these classes, patients will also have the chance to ask questions and learn about the latest nutrition updates and hot topics

RESTORE WITH NON-SLEEP DEEP REST

This 30-minute restorative yoga class includes the powerful practice of non-sleep deep rest to boost the relaxation response and your overall vitality. No experience needed, just a comfortable seat (chair or floor) to sit and/or lie down.

SEATED YOGA FOR EVERY BODY

No standing required and no yoga experience is necessary. In a safe and supportive environment, learn poses you can use in your everyday life. Find out firsthand about the groundedness that comes from cultivating a mind-body connection.
